Eczema can’t be cured but many of its symptoms can be managed, and some flare-ups can even be prevented.
What are Steroids?
Corticosteroid (steroid) preparations, which include creams and ointments, are not a cure but will reduce both the imflammation and the symptoms associated with flare-up. They must be used correctly, in short bursts and at the right strength. Oral corticosteroids, such as Prednisolone, can be used for a limited time if eczema has flared badly.
What are Emollients?
Emollients are skin creams that help to soften and smooth your skin in order to keep it hydrated. They keep the skin moist and flexible, helping to prevent cracks. It is important to keep skin moisturised in order to prevent it becoming further aggravated.
What are Phytosterols?
Phytosterols are natural plant extracts which are added to emollients to provide extra moisture, helping to keep the skin hydrated and conditioned.
